This site deals with television shows and films that have been derived from comic books and have been produced or are currently in production. Examples of this type of show would be Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, or Hellboy. Types of movies and shows not listed include shows derived from comic strips, or even those comic-book like films derived from other pulp source. Likewise cartoon shows that have been adapted to the big screen will not be listed here either, such as The Flintstones or Scooby-Doo.

A few of the latest entries may in fact be hypothetical, as the nature of the movie industry changes daily. For real bleeding edge information on upcoming superhero movies (and possibly television episodes as well), I invite you to visit: SuperHero Hype or the Comic Book Movie Store. Don Markstein's Toonpedia website has a lot of information on comic book, comic strip and other cartoon based characters, and has been a valuable resource in the compilation of these pages.

Below are listed some Comics that are not included -- though they seem like they should -- and the reasons why.

• The Phantom - published by Frew Comics, originally started as a newspaper comic strip
• Mandrake the Magician - created by Lee Falk, the originator of The Phantom, likewise a daily comic strip
• Defenders of the Earth - While a Marvel comic, this features characters created by Lee Falk (Phantom, Mandrake, along with Don Moore's Flash Gordon) who all appeared in newspaper comic strips
• The Shadow - The adventures of Lamont Cranston begain life as a radio show, before working its way into comics and movies
• Flash Gordon - A true comic book hero if ever there was one, but unfortunately he originated in the Funny Papers
• Casper the Friendly Ghost - Before graduating to comic books, Casper was the star of short features produced by Paramount
• Dick Tracy, Popeye, Garfield, Little Orphan Annie - All originated in the funny paper
